Sonido Boombox - "Photo Shoot" y Playlist for July 10th Show!

Austin's best, David Garza, comes out for Sonido's photo shoot.

We recently assembled some of Austin's finest music acts for a Sonido "Class of 2009," photo shoot at Rabbits! It was a great undertaking that paid off. We filmed our new show "intros" and "outros" as well. Those are up and running. Here is a photo album displaying the best pics of the day. From David Garza to Grupo, Peligrosa All-Stars to Maneja Beto, the Austin Latino music scene was in full effect. And all for us, Sonido!

Side note, shot the same afternoon of the death of Michael Jackson, David Garza, while seating during the "proper" shot, began riffing "Billie Jean." Everyone joined in, bittersweet but memorable.

We put together another action packed show for our tv viewers in Austin. Guests include Rocky of Este Vato and Josh Shepherd of the Backline Show. The Backline Show is a hot new internet music show with new editions every Thursday. From the Von Bondies to Electric Touch, Josh highlights all good things Indie. We loved having him on the show! We also gave a lil love to LAMC with a mini music block. We debuted the new live video by Este Vato, directed by turbo-talented Johnny Ramirez!

Este Vato Invades Sonido!

Not since the emergence of Maneja Beto has there been this much buzz about a new Latino fusion band from Austin. Este Vato blends Cumbia, Hip-hop and Metal-driven guitars, what a great mezcla! Brothers Rocky and Oscar Reyna, both veterans of the Texas music scene, have assembled a great line-up of singers, dj's and rappers to fill out the rest of the band.

Este Vato invades Sonido's popular Happy Hour event for a two week residency. Starting tonight, Este Vato will show you why they are riding high on a wave of accliamed shows and buzz talk. Earlier this year they wowed the crowds at MySpace Latino's En Tu Ciudad showcase. They recently were filmmed by Johnny Ramirez and Indie Live Austin at our own SaucidoSlant Showcase. Those live videos are something else! O, nuff said about these boys, Este Vato at Sonido! Guey...

The Morakestra and Shu-Sho Flex New Music and Videos

New Music Tuesday and we love it! Two very different acts, The Morakestra and Shu-Sho, have new videos and albums out. One funk based, the other "Outer World" based, will no doubt generate much justified buzz. The Morakestra, an El Paso now Austin based act, new album is called "Witness to Connection" The new work is produced by Jim Ward of Sparta/At The Drive-In.

From Babel Music "The Morakestra are twin brothers from El Paso, Texas who grew up learning guitar together, and infuse their separate but identical voices and talents in the band. Taking influenced from post hardcore artists like Sparta and At the Drive-In, (no surprise, given that legendary musician Jim Ward and his work with the aforementioned bands produced the album), The Morakestra adds modern indie and psychedelic for a subdued indie rock in their upcoming album, Witness to Connection.
In their latest video, "Tell You Something," featuring Megalyn Echikunwoke from CSI Miami, the lead singer undergoes an unlikely transformation and wanders through landscapes, attempting to catch the woman who gave him the fate and begging to tell you something. With complex intricate guitars and the twins' alternating voices, what they are asking to tell you might just be worth listening to. Watch the video below and if you're lucky enough to live in Texas, see The Morakestra play this summer. - Laura Yan "

Ok, I'm really loving Shu-sho's new song Happenstance. The new EP is online now and they are giving you the option to get for free! But you're gonna pay them something right? "Senora" is a great video, here are some of people involved with it. "SHOT BY: Vicente Serrano and Gilbert Gil, EDITED BY: Giovanny Blanco, PRODUCED BY SHU-SHO. "SeƱora" in the vein of all the previous Spigga videos where Blanco and Jaswho? use any excuse to act silly. This time going for a more "mature" look. And all just a tease for FATCAMP, the new CD from SHU-SHO out late summer. SHU-SHO: kickin' your ass since 1989."

"Verano Loco" Showcase Announced to Celebrate the Return of Sonido Boombox!

Bemba and Bravo Entainment announce a stellar showcase to celebrate the return of pioneering show, Sonido Boombox. Maverick concert promoters Brandon Badillo and Enrique Bravo are calling the event "Verano Loco." Schedule to perform from Monterrey, Mexico is the highly creative and explosive band 60 Tigres. 60 Tigres were finalists in last year's ACL Battle of the Bands and wowed audiences earlier this year at SXSW.

Also on the bill is Austin's Loxsly. Always bending and redefining music in our showcases, musicly, 60 Tigres and Loxsly make sense. NPR says these about these talented lads,"Instead of relying on a couple of offbeat songs to demonstrate a more experimental bent, Loxsly often blends familiarity and new ground within the same song, making for a more intriguing concept."

"Verano," is rounded out by Tureka Rock and LatinTron DJ Crew out of Houston. For more information and videos check out Sonido Boombox on air with a new show every Friday at 8pm on ME Television. Special t-shirt screening machines will be in hand as well, provided by Mercury Mambo.

Not since the days of the LRA has there been a unifiying force in Texas that gave Latino acts the spotlight to perform. Sonido is the standard and hield it's first series of acclaimed showcases in January of 2006, just months after debuting on ME Television. Sonido is honored to work with Bemba and Bravo Entertainment respectively. Since Sonido has showcased artists such as Brownout, Chetes, The Lemurs, Maneja Beto, Los Amigos Invisibles, Lomita, B-Side Players, Spigga and more.
